Ehime Prefecture, located on Japan’s Shikoku Island, is a destination where timeless culture meets serene coastal beauty. At its heart lies Matsuyama, a charming castle city known for its historic landmarks, nostalgic streets, and Japan’s oldest hot spring, Dogo Onsen. Beyond the city, the journey unfolds into Iyo-Ozu, a beautifully preserved castle town where traditional wooden architecture and riverside scenery reflect Japan’s Edo-period heritage.
Further along the coastline, the Azu and surrounding seaside regions reveal a quieter, more untouched side of Japan. Here, fishing villages, scenic coastal roads, and open sea views create a sense of calm and space rarely found in more tourist-heavy destinations. Together, this route offers a perfect balance of culture, history, nature, and slow travel, especially when experienced with a private guide and driver.

Upon arrival in Matsuyama, your private guide and driver will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in comfort. After check-in, the journey begins with a relaxed visit to Matsuyama Castle, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city from the hilltop. The castle offers a peaceful introduction to the region’s history and charm.

Explore Okaido, Matsuyama’s main covered shopping arcade (shotengai). Stretching for several blocks, it offers a perfect microcosm of modern Japanese urban life while retaining deep local character.
Look for vendors selling mikan (mandarin oranges)—Ehime Prefecture’s famous citrus—and handmade crafts. You might also spot a mikoshi (portable shrine) on display, connecting the arcade to local festivals.

This evening, we have organised a visit for you to Dogo Onsen, one of Japan’s oldest hot spring. With a history spanning over 3,000 years, Dogo Onsen features the Yushinden, an exclusive bathing suite built in 1899 for the imperial family, which visitors can tour to view preserved historical luxury.
The main public bathhouse, Dogo Onsen Honkan, is a three-story wooden castle-like structure built in 1894. It is a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan.
The bathhouse uses 100% pure, alkaline thermal waters drawn directly from source springs, naturally cooled without reheating to ensure maximum skin-softening benefits.
A famous legend tells of an injured white heron that healed its leg by soaking in these very waters, leading to the discovery of the hot spring.
This evening, enjoy a local dinner before you return to your hotel.
After breakfast, you will board the Iyonada Monogatari sightseeing train for one of Japan’s most scenic rail journeys. The train runs along the Seto Inland Sea, offering beautiful coastal views throughout the ride. One of the most heartwarming aspects of the Iyonada Monogatari experience is how the entire community gets involved. As the train winds its way along the dramatic coastline of the Seto Inland Sea, residents, farmers, and children standing along the tracks, in fields, and at stations will step outside to wave flags and greet passengers.
A highlight is Shimonada Station, where you can step off and enjoy the famous seaside scenery. The atmosphere is quiet and cinematic, often compared to a Ghibli film scene.

Upon arrival in Iyo-Ozu, your private driver will meet you and take you to explore the town. You will visit Ozu Castle and the elegant Garyu Sanso villa and gardens.
The rest of the day is spent walking through the historic castle town. You will stay overnight in a boutique heritage hotel.
The morning begins with a slow walk through Ozu’s preserved town streets. You can enjoy the calm river views and traditional wooden buildings. After check-out, your private driver will take you along scenic countryside roads toward the coastal region.
Along the way, you will pass fishing villages, farmland, and coastal viewpoints. Stops can be made for photos and local experiences. By evening, you will arrive at your seaside accommodation in the Azu coastal area. The night is free so you can relax and enjoy the ocean views.

Today is a full day exploring the coastal beauty of Ehime. Your private driver will bring you along quiet seaside routes with stunning ocean views. You may visit small fishing towns, temples, or hidden viewpoints along the coast.
The pace is flexible and relaxed throughout the day. You can also enjoy optional activities such as short walks or café stops by the sea. The focus is on slow travel and natural scenery. You will either return to Matsuyama or remain at your coastal stay for the night.
Our journey comes full circle as you return to Matsuyama for your final day. For a restorative experience before you depart, you can opt to visit the iconic Dogo Onsen Honkan. Try their traditional Kami-no-yu (Bath of the Gods) and book an upper-floor tatami room for traditional tea and sweets.
Or consider Asuka no Yu annex, an Asuka-period-inspired bathhouse that features beautiful local artisan crafts, spacious relaxation lounges, and a soothing open-air bath.
Before departing, take some time for light shopping or a scenic city stroll.
Your private driver will then transfer you to the station or airport, bringing a memorable close to an Ehime coastal adventure filled with rich culture, breathtaking scenery, and deep relaxation.
