Daily departure
Arrive in Wakkanai Airport. Direct flights are available from both New Chitose Airport and Haneda Airport. Meet your guide and then hop into a private vehicle for a transfer to a hotel recommended by us in the city. Use this day to rest up (very early start the next day!) or take some time to explore the area. Pack some snacks ad drinks for tomorrow's adventure.

Take the 6:30 am ferry and enjoy the lull of the sea for two hours before landing on Rebun Island. After disembarking from the ferry, hike along the west coast of Rebun, where alpine flowers thrive on slopes reaching toward the Sea of Japan. Follow the trail from the port, to Momoiwa trailhead, to the Momoiwa Observatory along the mountain ridge and finally ending in Shireoko. Time: 4 hours | Distance: 5.7 km | Elevation gain: 244 m.

The next day, explore the Cape Tour Course on Rebun Island, starting at Cape Sukoton at the northernmost tip. This nearly 13-kilometer trek passes through Cape Gorota and Cape Sukai, known for its remarkably clear seawater, before leading to an area covered with Rebun cypripedium flowers and ending at Hamanaka. Time: 5 hours | Distance: 12.5 km | Elevation gain: 100 m. After completing the Cape Tour Course, continue to the Kushuko Course (4.2 km), a gentle lakeside walk with no inclines. The trail starts at a campsite and circles Lake Kushu, passing through marshes and reeds, with a bird songs throughout the walk.

In summer, the ferry to Rishiri departs at 12:50 PM, allowing time for a relaxed morning, lunch at the ferry terminal, and a visit to the souvenir shop for local products. After arriving on Rishiri Island after a 45 minute ferry ride, head to Himenuma Pond for a nice afternoon stroll. Enjoy the reflection of Mt. Rishiri in good weather, then explore the 1 km trail with boardwalks, birds, and fireflies. Head back to the accommodation and rest up for the full day and early start for Mt.Rishiri.

Start hiking at 5am. Climbing Mt. Rishiri or Rishiri Fuji, one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains, starting in the lush forests of Rishiri Island. After passing Kanro-Sensui spring, the trail ascends to the 5th Station with ocean views, steepens toward Mt. Chokan, and continues past a shelter hut to the final climb to the summit. At the to of Mt. Rishiri, enjoy the panoramic views of northern Japan. Return to your accommodation to relax in the hot springs.Time: 11 hours | Distance: 15km | Elevation gain: 1,668m.

The sixth day offers a chance to rest or explore Rishiri Island at a relaxed pace. Rent a bike to explore remote spots like Otatomari Marsh, Shiroi Koibito no Oka viewpoint, or Senhoshimisaki Park which has beautiful coastal views.
Board the ferry from Rishiri in the morning and head back to Wakkanai, for a swift transfer to the airport. Your next destination? Home sweet home. But remember, it's not sayonara yet, it's "See you soon!" The question is, where to from here?
