This 8‑day journey through Timor‑Leste blends marine adventure with cultural discovery, beginning in Dili before crossing to Atauro Island for snorkelling and two full days of whale‑watching sessions designed to maximise sightings of blue, sperm, and humpback whales.
Every year between October and December, the deep pelagic waters along Timor-Leste's northern coast transform into a global marine highway. Hundreds of magnificent Pygmy Blue Whales—alongside pods of sperm whales, pilot whales, and thousands of dolphins—pass just meters from shore during their annual 10,000 km migration through the Ombai-Wetar Strait.
A Model for Sustainable Eco-Tourism
Unlike traditional commercial whale-watching hubs, Timor-Leste’s emerging marine tourism is built around community-led conservation, strict approach guidelines, and small-group encounters. Local operators emphasize low-impact viewing—often limiting in-water drops to strictly regulated, non-intrusive swim-with-whales experiences—ensuring these migratory gentle giants are protected while generating eco-conscious livelihoods for coastal communities.
Join our 8‑day journey through Timor‑Leste, blending marine adventure with cultural discovery.
