Afterwards continue to Kandy

Kandy, which means "City on the Hills," got its name because nature—including water, rocks, and jungles—protected it. The last royal residence of the Sri Lankan monarchs before they were defeated by the British in 1815 AD is now a World Heritage Site. When you think of Kandy, images of splendor and elegance come to mind. Numerous myths, customs, and folklore are still tenderly preserved. The golden-roofed Temple of the Buddha's Tooth Relic is the main draw. A commanding view of the City may be found from the Kandy Lake, which the previous king Sri Wickramarajasinghe created in 1806. Along with culture and history, it is a city for arts and crafts.
