Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu; afternoon guided tour of Old City

Namaste and welcome to Nepal! Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, pass through immigration and customs where you will be met and greet by our local representative and meet your private tour guide. Afterwards, you’ll transfer to your hotel.

Kathmandu, the busy, colourful and chaotic capital city of Nepal. Centuries of history are revealed in shrines, hidden temples and narrow backstreets, and the Himalaya provides a spectacular backdrop to this intoxicating city. Upon arrival check-in at hotel.

After an initial briefing on your Nepal tour with your guide, proceed to visit Swyambhunath (a.k.a. Monkey temple. Perched on a pedestal high on the hilltop, Swyambhunath is acclaimed as the oldest stupa in the world and is influenced by both the Nepalese and Tibetan forms of Buddhism, which attracts constant stream of pilgrims from all around Nepal.

In the late afternoon, we embark on an interesting ride to take in the 'real' Kathmandu - Rickshaw Evening Explorer: Start your interesting ride on a cycle rickshaw, a.k.a. ‘street helicopters’, through the colorful tourist hub of Thamel, then on to the bustling vegetable and spice markets of Asan – the oldest market square of Kathmandu. Continue to take the backstreets into the Durbar Square. Devoid of tour groups and tastefully illuminated at night, you will certainly feel the soulful side of Kathmandu. After visit we return to hotel.

Day 2: Drive via Panauti to Khopasi (2hrs approx.); hike to Balthali (1.5hrs approx.)

Jostling for space to drive through the metropolis of Kathmandu, it’s a welcome relief to get a notch up the speed on the one and only express way in Nepal! Exiting out of the city sphere at the township of Banepa, the road leads in the right ward direction to the ancient Newari town of Panauti reaching where you would feel like you’ve been transported back in time. Take a walk through the township adorned with centuries old temples, houses, and
market squares.

Drive resumes taking you to the bazaar of Khopasi, half an hour further. Your hike starts with the crossing of Rosi Khola and puts you on a dirt road, heading in a south-east direction, through a seemingly endless chain of verdant paddy fields. This is the countryside reminiscent of Kathmandu valley decades ago before the cultural crosscurrents of modernity brought about the sea change.  Piercing through the paddy fields interspersed with short stretches of pine forest, past sporadic settlements of multi-ethnic community and greeted by ever so welcoming smiling faces, you gradually descend to the winding Rosi Khola again. A wooden bridge provides a pathway to the other side of the stream signaling the gently climbing rough road up through the fields to the thickly forested retreat of Balthali Village Resort graced with soothing tranquility and commanding views of the verdant villages and farms, rising above which is the mighty Himalayas in the horizon.

Take the trail bridge to meet a winding steep uphill foot trail through open pastures, which eventually leads you to a motor-able dirt track coming in from Panauti. Continuing the same track, you walk past few villages to enter a dense forest for a brief period just before you reach the much-revered Buddhist pilgrimage site of Namobuddha.
